Full History
Made in Apulia in Southern Italy c.350 B.C. and identified by inventories as belonging to William Constable. It is likely to have been acquired from one of the excavation sites in Southern Italy that William visited during his Grand Tour. It was discovered in a damaged state in the attic in 1992.

The depiction on the vase is of a Maenad (female follower of Dionysos) seated on a rock holding a tambour and thyrsus (floral staff). Behind her is a young Satyr and facing her is either another Satyr holding a thyrsus and bunch of grapes, or more probably, Dinoysos himself. The other side shows a scene of two standing youths.
