Full History
"The 'Brass Lance' and the 'Hone to sharpen it' which were originally found in association with an 'Urn' and 'Securis Lapidea' at Broughton, North Yorkshire in 1676"-Objects from the museum of Ralph Thoresby (description from Thoresby's Catalogue)
These were some of the grave goods from an early Bronze Age Burial. This represents the earliest documented excavation of such a burial in Britain and was discussed by Sir Hans Sloane and Thomas Hearne. The 'lance' is illustrated in Thoresby's catalogue.
